Choosing a place to live which one would you choose?
Chesapeake, VA (3)
 100%
Hampton, VA (0)
 0%
Suffolk, VA (0)
 0%
Portsmouth, VA (0)
 0%
We are down to these areas to live in.  We want a large yard for kids and dogs and not be on a crazy busy street. Why do you like the area that you picked. Thanks

we live in the churchland area of portsmouth one street from chesapeake and one street from suffolk. we looked only in the portsmouth (churchland), chesapeake (upper western branch), and upper suffolk area. they are all pretty much the same from a living standpoint you dont even really know when you cross over into the next town cause the lines are so weird. school wise chesapeake and suffolk are better. in suffolk we liked steeplechase and almost bought a house there but then ours came up and it is on the water so that was more appealing to us even though taxes are higher in portsmouth.

We live in Virginia Beach, but my husband's base is in Chesapeake. Depending on what part of Chesapeake, you get a lot of yard and a bigger house for the money. Chesapeake is very widespread as well. The Hickory school district, I hear is great!! What base will he be on?

He will be working at Norfolk. With what we see online and who I have spoken to IRL, Chesapeake seems to be more of where I want to live. My DH is still deployed so he hasn't done much except to say here are the dates and we will start doing stuff when he returns.

the places we find online are in the 23322 or is it 32233 zip code. it says Southern Cheasapeake and near a good school system but I was told most schools in Cheasapeake are good.

From what I hear traffic can be bad (I haven't lived here long enough to get the flow down yet) and then you have to deal with bridges AND tunnels. So where you live depends on where he works and the flow of traffic. I've experienced first hand the havoc of having a tunnel shut down for whatever reason. It bites. We chose Chesapeake (23320) because the trip to Little creek has minimum bridges and alternate routes. We came from DC, so traffic is always foremost on our brains.

We have decided to stay on base first and then check out the areas we'd like to live.  We talked it over again and decided to take our time rather than rush in on buying a house.
